THE FAMOUS 8TH
The 2024 July Major Staff Bag shines a spotlight on the host venue’s iconic short Par 3 8th, arguably one of the most famous holes in golf, with each other hole of the course being represented as a postage stamp - the front nine on one side panel, the back nine on the reverse side. This theme is carried through to the matching headcovers and limited-edition July Major Chrome Tour Golf Balls.
BURIED
Another nod to the famous 8th can be seen in all the zipper pulls, which are in the shape of a coffin, alluding to eponymous bunker that lies next to the diminutive short Par 3’s green.
A NATIONAL TREASURE
The colour navy runs throughout the bag, representing the national colours of Scotland, further emphasised by the Saltire on the tee pocket, while a blue bespeckled ‘haze’ touches various elements of the bag, depicting the harsh winds and sea that play such a big role in links golf.
STEEPED IN TRADITION
Two coronets (not crowns!) are embroidered on the handle, representing the 5th and 6th Dukes of Portland, former owners of the land who allowed their estate to be used to build and maintain the club. A serpent, often found adorning the crests of the family’s coat of arms, runs through the 2024 icon at the bottom-front of the bag.
POCKETS LINED WITH HIDDEN TREASURE
Open the ball pocket or the main storage compartment and you’ll find the lining adorned with hidden gold, jewels and golf clubs, inspired by the “Smugglers’ Trail” pathway that runs along the side of the course, used by smugglers to transport contraband from ship to shore.
